As if hot dogs weren’t good enough, the fine folks over at Simply Recipes have hooked us up with a great recipe for grilled bacon wrapped stuffed hot dogs. OMG. Yummy?

Bacon comes to geeks via XKCD

No day would be complete without a little bacon love from XKCD (aka the last available four-letter domain name on the Internet) … this one entitled “Stove Ownership”:

Review: Bacon Vodka (hint: not your Mom’s bacon)

Of course no Friday would be complete without at least one mention of something about bacon. Today we have a review from Sam Sessa from the Baltimore Sun giving his take on bacon flavored vodka:

The drink had a robust, meaty aroma that pleased the palette, grounded by a sharp undercurrent of liquor. It will surely stimulate the senses of breakfast aficionados.

Bacon Salt Has Arrived!

Bacon Salt and Popcorn SmallThe Bacon Salt I ordered arrived last week, and I’ve already used it on my most anticipated food: popcorn!

I cooked up some good old microwave popcorn with ‘light butter topping’, and heaped a generous amount of the original style bacon salt. It flavored the popcorn with such bacon-y goodness that my friend Jason and I inhaled the popcorn in a matter of minutes. Probably seconds. I almost bit his hand off fighting for the popcorn.

From now on I carry the bacon salt in my bag wherever I go. I’ve already used it at the movie theater. Until next time, here’s to bacon salt!

The Triple-Threat Bacon Breakfast Burrito

The best time for bacon is right after you wake up, or so my Mom told me. She always said “3 pieces of bacon a day will keep the doctor away.” That’s where I came up with the idea for the Triple-Threat Bacon Breakfast Burrito. That and intense fear of doctor’s offices.

I don’t like my burritos sloppy. That’s why this burrito recipe is super simple, and it uses fresh ingredients.

Triple-Threat Bacon Breakfast Burrito

Ingredients:

  • 1 burrito-size flour tortilla
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 strips bacon
  • 1 roma or other tomato (preferably nice and ripe), chopped into chunks and seeds mostly removed
  • A little sprig of fresh cilantro
  • Salt (Bacon Salt if you have it) and Pepper

Prepare

Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees. Once pre-heated, place bacon on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil and place in the middle rack of the oven. Turn on your timer for 10 minutes and make your coffee or tea.

After 10 minutes, check the bacon. If it’s done enough for your taste, take it out. If not, leave it in the oven…but keep an eye on it. Bacon can turn from crispy to overcooked in no time. Once the bacon is cooked the way you want, take it out of the oven and put it on a plate covered with a paper towel to soak up the fat.

Beat in the salt and pepper with the eggs (just do however much sounds good to you). Coat a small saucepan with non-stick spray and pour egg into the pan. Cook over medium-low heat. Once the egg is done, place the tortilla in your microwave and heat for 10 seconds, then place tortilla on a plate and put the egg, tomato, and bacon in the middle of the tortilla. Either chop or break the cilantro leaves into bits and sprinkle on top. Wrap up the tortilla and you’re good to go!

Bacon Flavored Salt

Bacon Salt - All Three FlavorsFrom sweet to salty, there are two extremes to what you can do with bacon. A couple of guys who call themselves “Bacontrepeneurs” have invented Bacon Salt, a concoction that defies all understanding by not only being vegetarian, but kosher. So now everyone from all walks of life can enjoy the taste of bacon and not have any of the guilt!

We ordered ourselves the Original flavored salt from their web site, which is only $4.49, but costs an additional $5 for shipping. Is it worth $9.49 for Bacon Salt? I certainly think so.

Just off the top off my head, here are a few things I’m going to try Bacon Salt on:

  • Popcorn
  • Watermelon
  • Pork Chops
  • Green Beans
  • Corn on the Cob
  • And of course, some Bacon Salt on Bacon Action

Be on the lookout for more uses for Bacon Salt, as we anxiously await the day it shows up on our front doorstep.

Just when you thought life couldn’t get any sweeter

Bacon Chocolate Bar

Sure there are bacon bits, bacon bites and bacon crisps, but I didn’t see this one coming.

Someone had the idea of making a chocolate bar with bacon in it. And then then a company decided to sell it. How is this not a sign of the power of bacon?

Ingredients: Applewood Smoked Bacon, Alder smoked salt, “deep” (?) milk chocolate

Price: $7.00

At the moment the web site shows it as sold out. Can’t say I’m surprised. Who wouldn’t want to try it?

We’re going to try to get our hands on a bar and we’ll review it here when we do. In the mean time, I will dream sweet, bacon-y dreams about the Vosges Chocolate bacon bar. Mmmmm….
